Gypsy Drum Filly

This is my favortie filly. Not because I choose her, but that she choose me. I enjoy being with her on a daily basis. She stays for scratches when everyone else goes out in the pasture. I did not realize how attached she was until during her training one day I walked back to the barn while Mele was riding and Gem started whinning for me. Mele has told me she was trying to follow me and having trouble paying attention. She did not want me out of sight.

Gem is a special filly. This is a three year old picture. This is a sweet beautiful horse.  She loves to be groomed and petted.  She is a big girl and currently stands around 15.3 hands tall.  She is not finished growing and her butt is higher than her withers again. We all know that means a growth spurt. She has not finished growing and should make a bit over 16 hands when grown. This filly has it all. The best thing is her temperment. She will allow me to do anything and takes it all in stride.  Nothing is a fight and she is always repectful of me. We have worked on many things including ground driving. We have been trail riding and she is doing great. I don't ride her much, because she is still growing.

The one thing that is so special about Gem is the amount of hair on her body. Everyone with gypsy horses know if you have a ton of mane, the feathers may not be as much as you wanted and if you have a ton of feather your horse's mane may not be what you expected. Well Gem has it all mane down to her front legs and even though her feather is silky she has a ton. This horse turns head no matter what we are doing. She is a great poster child for the breed and I try and get her out to show her off as much as possible.

Gem as a foal still in England.

Gem does my work with children. We have been participating in the farm day for Stephens county for the 3 years. Teaching 3rd graders about horses. I don't talk about the breed just that draft horses are a working breed. Horses where how farmers use to work their farms and get to town for supplies. The kids seem to enjoy the stories.

Be sure and view my Gypsy Horse Photo pages to see more photos of Gem.

Gem continutes to grow into an amazing young horse. These pictures where taken at her first show. She was the youngest horse at the show and had only been riding for one month and did better than any of the older horses. She was a huge hit with her beauty and grace. She is going to make a stunning mare. She has tons of feather and a huge double mane. She will stay with me and be groomed with no halter or rope, even after all the other horses have left for the pasture. I am so proud of this horse. Thanks so much to Jeff and Christine Bartko for letting me buy this beautiful horse. She gives me love and happiness daily.

The pictures show my friend and trainer Mele Miller riding Gem for me in the show. Mele has helped me so much with all three of my mares. I couldn't  have done any of this without her help. She has shown horse for the better part of her life and is confident enough to be the center of attention. That is a trait I did not aquire. I am confident in myself I do not enjoy the crowds.  Thanks Mele.
